Willie Nelson -- a BOBO?

(via KenLayne.com)  Ken links to a New Yorker article on the "new Willie Nelson."   I shcooled enough country music mythology to semi-authoritatively say that Willie was / is THE original "outlaw country" musician.   These guys are rugged individualists who are so far down their own less travelled roads that they occasionally brushed with the law.

Nowadays, Willie has the following to say:

"I don't get drunk as much anymore because I don't have as much to get drunk about," he admits. He explains,"My wife actually got worried about my drinking so much regular milk, you know, so she got me into rice milk and now soy milk, which I greatly enjoy. A soy mocha's a fine thing."

Times are a-changing.   Are Starbucks endorsements right around the corner?  And, as Ken says, I can practically hear Willie's raspy voice saying "A soy mocha's a fine thing"

Normally, for my regular readers, I'd comment about how this interview is indicative of just how dang affluent we Americans are / have become. At least a few threads of country music are supposed to be depressing and about the longing for authenticity in a plastic world. And Willie's was supposed to be the king of this space.
