California Teachers Association & Iraq

LGF has this article documenting a resolution passed by the California Federation of Teachers' condemning US intervention in Iraq.  A few excerpts:

...Whereas, the United States and Britain have been bombing Iraq on a virtually continuous basis since the end of the Gulf War, and

...Whereas, this administration is using the so-called War on Terrorism to distract the American people from the vital issues they confront, Therefore, be it resolved that the California Federation of Teachers goes on record as strenuously opposing the Bush administration's march toward war with Iraq

Broadly, people are entitled to their opinions (and I, for one, firmly disagree with much of the drivel put forth by the CFT).  However, what irks me is the fact that, in the face of thousands of other problems in the California educational system, these teachers felt like debating & issuing an anti-Iraq-intervention proclamation was the best use of their time.   Don't they need to, uh, teach?

One of LGF's readers comments:

As a member of NYSUT (New York State United Teachers) I unequivocally say that the CFT is way out of bounds passing this resolution. I only hope that some members voice their disapproval towards such an assinine action.
