Why Krauthammer has a Pulitzer

... and I do not.   It's because of elegant, concise columns like this -

The spirit of this [latest, French student] revolution is embodied most perfectly in the slogan on many placards: CONTRE LA PRÃCARITÃ, or "Against Precariousness." The precariousness of being subject to being fired. The precariousness of the untenured life, even if the work is boring and the boss no longer wants you. And ultimately, the precariousness of life itself, any weakening of the government guarantee of safety, conformity, regularity.

That is something very new. And it is not just a long way from the ideals of 1789. It is the very antithesis. It represents an escape from freedom, a demand for an arbitrary powerful state in whose bosom you can settle for life.

And it gets better from there.

One of the classic criticisms of the term "conservative" is that it connotes something static or even reactionary - harkening back to an earlier time and a certain incumbent social structure.   As an economically driven libertarian, it's hard to find a meaning that's further my case - what could possibly be more dynamic than Schumpeterian creative destruction and is there any doubt which side of the aisle more thoroughly embraces this ideal?
