Yep, I'm happy that Schwarz is now our gov. I'm not going to say too much about it cuz you can read volumes about it everywhere else. It is a bittersweet victory, however, he wasn't my perfect candidate (McClintock, once again, is still a notch above Schwarz for me in most respects). But I'm man enough to accept that perfection isn't the standard for some things... just being better than the alternative is. A previous post laid out my reasons for voting the way I did. It is interesting, however to take a look at the results from San Francisco county:
Now, I didn't rationally expect Schwarz to carry the People's Republic of SF but MAN, he was slaughtered here. What a bunch of WACKOS! This is numerical, ironclad proof that folks like myself are a deep minority in SF - these guys HONESTLY hated Bustamante less than Schwarz. Do these guys have ANY idea about the econ impacts of Bustamante policy? More likely - they probably just don't care. SF'ers are the first ones to argue in favor of restrictive zoning laws, complex rent control restrictions, massive employee benefits packages and yet at the same time the first to complain about exorbitant housing, expensive rents, and blame Bush for their unemployment. They vent their frustrations at "the Rich" but have made a career out of turning SF into a place where only the rich can truly enjoy our city's unparalleled beauty. My "real" home precinct of San Mateo county (encompassing the burbs just south of SF) shows a similar trend albeit less pronounced:
