Righteous Shootings

I've semi-intentionally been staying away from the gun rights issue in my blog because it's just so polarizing.   Like many "3rd rail" issues out there (abortion, death penalty, etc.) it's the kind of thing that you can find yourself talking about just once but pigeonholed forever within one of a very small number of categories.   And often rather extremely defined ones.   (GNXP, for example, will forever be fighting against the "racist" banner).   There's a lot more to me and my blog than guns.

Still, every now and then I come across a story or 2 that really makes me glad we've got the right to bear arms in this country.   Kim Du Toit enumerates a couple in this post - part of a series he calls the "Department of Righteous Shootings" - he concludes:

Never forget the truth, folks. Each year, millions of incidents like this occur in the United States -- ordinary people's lives are saved, because someone other than the goblin had a gun.

Never forget that truth.

It's inconvenient to the GFWs, who would prefer that we were sniveling victims rather than armed citizens, but it's the truth nevertheless.

An excerpt from one of the stories:

As he [a potential rapist] backed away from Maryann, away from his rope, away from his intentions to harm her, and, hopefully, away from his image of himself as a big, bad dude who could have any "fun" he wanted with a woman, he started muttering, "Bitches with guns. Bitches with guns. Bitches with guns." He kept saying it over and over, as his own surprise gave way to impotent anger, "Bitches with guns. Bitches with guns."

Damn right!   As this pee-brained potential rapist crawled away, tail-between-legs, from a rather self-assured woman, he resorted to reclaiming his pathetic self-esteem in the only way he knew how - name calling.  I hope Maryann wears "BWG" on a t-shirt with well-earned pride.
