Palit on Kyoto & the Developing World

Suman Palit has this to say about recent EU recommendations that 3rd world / developing nations go "above and beyond" the recommendations of the Kyoto Protocol.

"It is really, really, in your best interests", continued the spokesthing, as he/she/it scratched aimlessly under armpits smelling faintly of stale curry and cologne. "You must focus on elevating your poverty into an art-form. Make beggary a noble third-world profession, so that we may join you in the effort to keep our expensive welfare economies free from competition. We are only looking out for you and your children, who will look after you now that you so unfairly kicked out your colonial masters?

Beautiful satire.

Kim Du Toit has a very interesting piece of commentary to Suman's article:

The only way the CO2 levels are going to stop rising in the atmosphere is if volcanoes stop erupting. Volcanic emissions in any 20-year period account for five times more soot and CO2 emitted by human endeavor since the beginning of the Industrial Age. We humans are important, but not THAT important, geologocally and ecologically speaking.

I'm sure the Skeptical Environmentalist has something to say about this.
