Leiberman, Schleiberman

It's no secret to my blog readers that I'm slowly getting angrier and angrier at Bush's & Congress' profligate ways.   I love what the administration has done in foreign policy BUT just about every second domestic initiative just plain pisses me off (tax cuts good, spending bad;  IRP good, marriage benefit lame;  moonshot-who knows? etc.).   Our domestic policy is becoming a zoo and folks like myself and our eventual children are going to have a hell of a mess to clean up.

It's why I sent a portion of my hard earned paycheck to Blake Ashby and blogged about him here.   For that matter, it's a large part of why I blog.   As Ashby states:

Unfortunately, this Administration has abandoned all of these principles. This Administration has doubled farm subsidies, regularly puts up trade barriers, and is running a massive budget deficit. Think about it – we have a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican President, and yet spending beyond homeland security has skyrocketed. By any measure, this Administration has abandoned the prudence and caution that were the hallmarks of my Republican Party.

Just about the only thing worse than the status quo has been the majority of the pack of Democratic contenders.   In the midst of that pack, my heart has vacillated between

  • Wesley Clark -- though not much anymore - does anyone have a clear idea of what he stands FOR?   We know what he's AGAINST - We know that he's hates Bush's alleged unilateralism but it isn't clear if the UN sanction that Clark requires for legitimacy was ever feasible (let alone moral).   AND, the disparity in many of his pre-campaign statements & post-campaign positions really make him just sound opportunistic
  • Joe Lieberman -- I started warming up to him, he's ostensibly pro-business, ostensibly pro-Iraq intervention, and a seasoned legislator...

Until I read this (via Kim Du Toit)

Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman yesterday said he would limit insurance company profits to 2 percent a year in order to reduce the cost of health care. He would also focus on reducing medical errors in half, he said.

“I think if you put a reasonable profit limit, which is what this is, a reasonable profit limit, then that will have the effect of lowering costs underneath,” he said.

“It’s not government take-over,” the Connecticut senator said about his plan to control health costs. “It’s a public-private partnership that really can provide insurance for people. And I have no doubt that I could sell this to a number of Republicans (in Congress) to support this.”

What a turd.  This schmoe hasn't the foggiest idea how healthcare economics works.  The fastest way to destroy our health system will be to take profits out.  It shocks and amazes me that such a senior statesman can be so economically illiterate.
