Socialism is all about taking the "economic" out of "socioeconomic status", meaning that gaining social status becomes a purely political game. Which is why it appeals to both the socially adept and the economically inadept. They both hate status that is based on dirty economics. Those boors don't deserve it.

So true.  So true.  Status-hierarchies are a human universal.   Claims by socialists (of all stripes) that they create a world devoid of "status" means that they simply constrain economic tools while ignoring the monster that rises in its place.   Much like the stigmatization of Guns,  this ill focus on one instantiation tragically ignores the real root cause - human nature itself.
