I know I'm supposed to be on Vacation...

But this bugged the living crap out of me.

The literary scene is getting ready for their post-vacation kick-off in September and writer Frédéric Beigbeder is doing to do what any self respecting member of the Paris Intelligentsia does: make money off the victims of 9-11. His new book 'Windows on the World' uses the pitch 'the only way to know what happened in the restaurant at the 107th floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center on September 11 2001, between 8:30 and 10:29 AM is to make it up.' In an excerpt from the book entitled 'Loving to death', published in a special edition of 'Technikart', the trapped office workers are portrayed as victims of the consumer society (and not as victims of those nice well behaved Muslim zealots) who decide to partake in some furious sex as their office burns and crumbles around them.

What god-awful shitty taste.   I'm not a terribly emotional person but this book makes me want to punch the author in the face.   FWIW, I should disclose that my college roommate was at Windows on the World on 9/11.   I presented this remembrance of him at his memorial service the following October.  He didn't work at the WTC but was there for a software industry conference.

I not arguing against freedom of speech for this lowlife.   Freedom of speech says that the government can't prevent him from publishing his creepy manuscript.   It does NOT mean, however, that his speech will be free from personal repercussions.  Especially from this red-blooded American male if I ever run into the turd on a Parisian street.  (no, I'm not threatening to get physical....  just very verbally abusive)
