How the Press Could Save Lives

(via Instapundit) If they really wanted to help the situation in Iraq, the media could give this story half of the airtime they're giving Laci Peterson or perhaps a quarter of the airtime they gave Abu Ghraib -

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A group of armed, masked Iraqi men threatened Tuesday to kill Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi if he did not immediately leave the country, accusing him of murdering innocent Iraqis and defiling the Muslim religion.

It's one thing for Zarqawi / Al Qaeda to rally the Arab street under the pretense of Jihad against infidel American / Zionist occupiers.   It's a different thing when a handful of Iraqi's want their neighborhood back so badly that they would issue a fatwa against Zarqawi.

Properly conveyed, this is a huge, demoralizing blow against Zarqawi and saps his ability to kill and maim both innocent Iraqi's as well as coalition soldiers just as much as inderdicting his financial pipeline.  The real battlefield here is one of the mind and Iraqi's who've seen Zarqawi up close & personal have made up theirs.  Our reporters need to make up theirs too - is it more important to report negative news on Bush or Zarqawi?
