Factoid from chatting w/ a coworker who specializes in handset embedded code - Lines of Software Code in a top of the line CDMA handset = 6,000,000 Several of my friends have heard me describe wireless protocols as "PhD level stuff". There's just so much complexity around problems like roaming handoffs, power management, mobility, error management and so on that completely dwarfs many other comparable applications. For example, I remember hearing that Windows v3.0 had about 2M lines of code and the considerably more advanced first rev of Windows NT equalled a CDMA phone at 6M lines of code. Tech marches on, right under our thumbs. ![]() |
