Cameraphone use cases

If you read between the lines on my blog, I've mentioned a couple of times that I'm pretty deeply wrapped up in the mobile phone biz.   The past few years in particular have been spent with MMS / Camera Phone tech - something Openwave was involved in pioneering years ago with J-Phone (now Vodafone-Japan).

One of the classic coming-of-age milestones for a technology is when it spawns compelling use cases that were completely unimaginable by the tech's progenitors and yet utterly impossible without the tech at hand.  Over the past few years, a couple of these from Japan / Korea have surfaced (for ex., barcodes designed to be read by cameraphones, mobile paparrazi, etc.) BUT, over @ Reither's Camera Phone Report, one such application really took me by surprise - MyFoodPhone -

"MyFoodPhone is a technology company that designs and develops monitoring and coaching tools for the health care and fitness industries. Our products and services enable personalized, close-contact programs for managing and improving chronic conditions such as overweight/obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and more.

"Our flagship offering is MyFoodPhone™, a B2B cellphone and Web-based subscription service that enables nutritionists and dieticians to monitor client food intake and provide personalized feedback.

"MyFoodPhone™ also makes it possible to log and track biometric data such weight, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, glucose levels, and blood pressure."

Fantastic stuff.
