A Real Republican

My faith in the Republican party has been slapped around quite a bit over the past year or so.  Gay Marriage.  Medicare.  Pork Spending.  New constitutional amendments to do this and that.  Prayer sessions at board meetings.  And so on.

Enough crap, basically, that I've been seriously shopping the other party and am just plain depressed at how grossly similar the 2 are.   At this trying moment when my faith is perhaps at its weakest, I come across this quote from former GOP presidential candidate Barry Goldwater:

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can."

Find me more of THESE Republicans.   If the parties *really* are the same, then there should be just as many Dem's making these types of bold statements as Republicans.   Alas, I can't help but compare protest candidates - Blake Ashby vs. Al Sharpton, for ex. - to find some fo the "spin free" poles of the party....
