I'm still a bit stunned by a note I just received.... Perhaps 6 months ago, I donated $100 to the Spirit of America to do my little bit to help reconstruct Iraq. I'd basically forgotten about that donation until I recieved this note from Jim Hake and the Spirit Team -
Dear vinod valloppillil,
Our donors contributed $1,248,967 for the Al Anbar TV project. You proved that you understand the power of free, independent media in Iraq. In my recent trip to Iraq, I saw that the media is an enormously powerful tool to help Iraq on the path to a free and peaceful future. It is also clear that Spirit of America can make a crucial difference in Iraq by supporting other independent media requests. As word of our support for the Al Anbar stations spreads, we¹re receiving requests for high-potential media projects in Najaf and Baghdad.
The breakdown: To provide the Marines with the basic equipment they requested for Al Anbar we spent $86,001 (6.9%) of the $1,248,967 that was donated. Including processing fees (3%) we have used 9.9% of the project donations.
This is your chance to reassign the unused portion of your donation or even get a refund, if that's your preference. This level of accountability is the only way to honor your support properly. Naturally, we hope you¹ll maintain your support. Please follow this link to give us your instructions before July 31st.

Thank you.

Could you imagine that? They didn't spend all the $$$ and they contacted me asking if I wanted it back!
When I clicked the link, I got a personalized page (great tech!) with a list of options for how I could choose to redirect the remaining 90.1% of my donation. Bowled over by this utterly classy move, I eagerly choose the "use all my $$$ unrestricted" option. Other charities would highly benefit from this level of donor feedback and empowerment. Go There Now and Donate.
